Egg Yolk
The name of this variety gags me, but I have a lot to say about it. Here is the thing- when ripe, it actually IS egg yolk color! Not just yellow, it is a rich deep pure yellow. Now, initially I figured this would be just another ho-hum yellow cherry (which I might add, I am a fan of). In fact, I even planted it in an area of the garden that has rather poor soil- I just did not care much about it. From time to time, I would walk down the row and notice how healthy and dense it was. Then....drum-roll...it started. This thing is a MACHINE! You hear me often say "good producer" in regards to a variety. That term would be a true understatement. Holy cow! I felt like this plant was punishing me for being flip about it by throwing pounds of fruit at me. I stand corrected! After this first year, I decided that if I were able to only grow one yellow cherry, I think Egg Yolk would be it. No, it is not the most dainty little yellow cherry you can grow (fruit is about small ping pong ball size) but boy, it sure is good. Not only that, but the plant is super healthy. This one is a keeper in my list for sure!
