Like Ace 55, Marglobe and Homestead, Rutgers, in our grow outs, reminded me just why it is still so popular after many years. I happened to notice a group of plants that were loaded with deep red clusters of medium/large size fruit. Lenny said it was Rutgers. I do not know why I was so surprised. I went over and looked closely and then tasted them. Terrific. This, along with Ace, are classic farmers market Tomatos. BTW...I believe there are two distinct strain of Rutgers going around. One is determinate and one is indeterminate. The indeterminate, which I grow, is superior in my opinion.
