Blueberries are our main crop; many 400 ft rows keep us very busy! All of our blueberries are in the Rabbiteye class-these are well suited to our East Texas climate as the species is actually native to the South East! The beauty of growing a native is the fact that they can be produced without chemicals. Essentially they haven't any real pest except perhaps birds and my son Henry! The same holds true for Blackberries, I do not need to apply any chemicals to produce them. It is nice to know that you can eat them right out of the basket without washing them.
We grow three primary varieties: Climax, Premier and Powder Blue. This gives us an extended ripening period, from late May to early July.
We will have both blueberries and blackberries at the farmer's markets through the season. We should be open for pick your own roughly the second week of June (or earlier depending on the season!) .- the Blueberries will be at their peak starting about then. Please call in advance if traveling simply to make certain we are there. Hours are easy...sun-up to sun-down except Saturday. The price will be $9.00 a gallon- we will provide you with a bucket to pick your berries and a bag to carry them home in. We can pick for you, just let us know in advance when you will need them and we will give you the price. Berry picking is fun but rather time consuming- so plan accordingly.
